Business Activities:
•The co-op produces honey, poultry as well as crop farming as they identified an opportunity in the community to bring and supply them these products and later started to supply some hawkers and retail stores.
•The business started with planting vegetable and sunflower but has since identified a niche on the market on beekeeping as they saw a need to save bees as they were burnt by local community.
Challenges/Needs:
•The challenge facing the business was that they wanted to improve quality as well as quantity of the honey and how to acquire bees and installing a swarm, pollination and hive management. It was then important that the business gets assistance with training on productivity & process development improvement on bees and herbs integration. With proper product and process development in place there was potential to increase sales.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
•The client was referred to a Business Advisor who, after consultation registered the client and conducted diagnostic assessments on the business. The assessment revealed that the business was very sensitive to sales increase. One important issue the business had to focus on was to increase the turnover.
•As a Business Advisor I assisted the business with the training to improve the general operations and application of best practice on bee management to improve performance.

Outcome Details:
•The co-operative has been assisted with the training as well promotional material to increase productivity and attracting new clientele.
•Through the assistance received, the performance of the business improved the turnover increased by 27% from R46 000 to R58 200.
•Employment increased from 5 employees to 8.
